Resolutions, (or, A Comparative Analysis of My Past and Future Selves)

What follows is a quasi-comprehensive list of descriptive phrases intended to contrast my life and livelihood preceding and following the New Year, for the joint purposes of (1) accountability; (2) tapping into the Power of Goals Tangibly Expressed (PoGTE™); and, admittedly, (3) a iota of humble-bragging (in a few particular areas of past success).

(Notice: it ought to be apparent that the highly positive attributes that follow each "AFTER" depict a future that is, for the most part, unrealized as of yet. This should not dampen their truth, since I am for sure going to, like, be the change and so forth.)

BEFORE: wrote only when life hit critical highs/lows

AFTER: writes without necessity of emotional maxima, but also writes at those points, but also writes afterward, basically is always writing; publishes a new piece every week (you heard it here first)

--

BEFORE: overanalyzed literary methods and choices of books, shows, ads, and movies

AFTER: writes out raw analyses, so that such thoughts no longer simply ricochet madly around inside brain before settling into stillness and oblivion like forgotten marbles dropped haphazardly into a ceramic urn now gathering dust on an unreachable shelf

--

BEFORE: manually ground coffee beans whilst watching 'Strike Back' on Amazon Prime

AFTER: manually grinds coffee beans whilst watching 'The Man in the High Castle' on Amazon Prime

--

BEFORE: regularly undertook and shared passion projects/series of all kinds; made products and sold a few of them

AFTER: actually, same, just better

--

BEFORE: 5'9", approx. 175lb

AFTER: actually, same, just better

--

BEFORE: threw all dirty clothes and linens into washer at once like unenlightened swine, irregularly and approximately every 1-2 weeks

AFTER: sorts laundry by colors, fabrics, and types; performs the ritual every 6.5 days; +1 level in Responsible Fabric Treatment

--

BEFORE: driven by a demotivational uncertainty about future as an artist/designer

AFTER: driven by a motivational uncertainty about future as an artist/designer

--

BEFORE: optimistic about possibilities

AFTER: very optimistic about possibilities

--

BEFORE: quietly on the fence about several issues re: faith, family, friendship, other (G-rated) f-words

AFTER: takes wrecking ball to fence, Miley-style; still considers the hard questions but talks more openly about struggles; acts decisively with conviction, compassion, thoughtfulness, and enthusiasm; is, obviously, ambitious in this area, but makes it happen

--

BEFORE: determined to improve ability to meet new people, make friends, and not completely fail at social interaction

AFTER: a lot more super chill about failing; focuses instead on cultivating meaningful relationships both old and new. also, killer at making phone calls

--

BEFORE: wrote almost exclusively about self and own experiences, including this, I guess

AFTER: rekindles former humor and fiction flames, branches out without trepidation into other, less introspective topics

--

BEFORE: regularly ambivalent about how to spend early mornings and late evenings

AFTER: #brbgym

Having recorded all this for posterity, I eagerly anticipate the introduction of "New Year, New Me!!!" to all my acquaintances, which should take place within this calendar year (if, indeed, the PoGTE™ is with me).

In closing, I paraphrase the immortal words of my 6th grade violin teacher, Mr. Joe, and invite you to "stay tuned!"
