This was one of my first - and still one of my favorite - graphic design projects. I created the invitations, programs, and thank you postcards for a friend's wedding in 2009.
The theme was "English Garden," requiring a gentle, sophisticated palette and a vintage touch (read: lots of textures). I opted for a trompe-l'œil aesthetic to lend an air of authenticity and the warmth of nostalgia. It also certainly didn't hurt that I had these beautiful engagement photos by Rachel Pray Photography to work with!
This project was a fantastic personal learning experience. It was an exercise in color harmony and restraint; in creating realistic drop shadows, rather than relying on the default Layer Styles offerings; in applying just enough brush masking and texture overlay to create the illusion of depth; and in choosing a typography suite that best captured a mood both formal and friendly.
The final product, I'm glad to say, effectively combined the excitement of the upcoming celebration and the delight of discovering a collection of romantic heirlooms.
